Kristeen--Once again the bravely stated truth of your message and the craft of your words are just stunning. I had my Mom read this and she could really relate. We lost my Dad about a year ago, although his dementia had caused a much earlier loss, and now she is facing a similar situation with her oldest sister. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings so eloquently.

Ah, K, you have done it again. You are moving through this period with such grace. Your huge love for your parents is so apparent as is your healthy sense of self (not to sound like a therapist or anything, but it's wonderful to read and see). Your passage about knowing of Death's approach and wanting it to hurry is how I felt every time I visited my sister during those long winter months five years ago. Death is not something one normally wishes for, and I wonder if I will be eager for it on my own behalf (or even have time to be eager--or not). I know my sister (and my dad) were frightened which left those around them feeling helpless. I hope I will be as brave as your dad and as well-supported as your mom.

I love you Auntie Winkle! And I'm very greatful that you are around for Grandma. I think I'll feel a lot the way you do, happy for her as I know she'll be in heaven with Grandpa, and much better off.

Luke doesn't have school on Monday, so I think we will go visit, and I think I'll try to make some Strawberry Shortcake to bring with me.
